Rachel Homburg
Violin 1, Carlysle String Quartet.
She was a member of the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra from 1995-2000, appearing as Concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra a number of times. Rachel has participated in a number of programs run by the Australian Youth Orchestra, including National Music Camp in 1997 and 1999, the Australian Youth Orchestra Camerata South Pacific Tour in 1999, the Australian Youth Orchestra European Tour in 2001, and the Orchestral Development Program with the TSO in 2004. In 2001 Rachel decided to move to Melbourne to study with William Hennessy at the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Music. She completed her Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours in 2003. During her time at the University, she was awarded the Florence Bradford Scholarship in Music in 2001, appeared as soloist and Concertmaster with the Melbourne University Orchestra, and was a soloist on the Melbourne University Chamber Orchestra East Coast Tour in 2003. In 2004, Rachel attended the Australian National Academy of Music on a full scholarship, where she studied with renowned pedagogue Alice Waten. In 2005, Rachel returned to the University of Melbourne to undertake a Master of Music in performance, under the guidance of William Hennessy. She currently holds an Australian Postgraduate Award at the University. Since 2004 she has been a member of the Australia Pro Arte Orchestra, and appeared as soloist in their BMW Edge concert series in 2005. Rachel also performed with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in their critically acclaimed performances of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen in 2004. Last year she was successful in gaining a casual position with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, with whom she now performs regularly. |
