Violist, Carlysle String Quartet.

Merewyn Bramble biographical photoMerewyn began playing both violin and viola when she was very young and was taught by her mother. She experienced the regular lifestyle of a child musician - enjoying the bout of eisteddfods, concerts and exams and studying chamber music with her siblings. Through to her late secondary school years Merewyn attended the Victorian State Music Camp with several years as principal viola and ending as concertmaster. She completed VCE Music in 1999 with a perfect performance score which led to an invitation to perform at the VCE Top CATS 2000.

Since she was 14 years old Merewyn has participated in many nationally selected Australian Youth Orchestra programmes including the Orchestral Fellowship, Young Australian Concert Artists and collaborating with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in 2005. Her years in the National Music Camp programme led her to a principal position in 2003.

In 2001 Merewyn commenced her Bachelor of Music under the tutelage of William Hennessy and Caroline Henbest, graduating four years later with Honours in Performance. During her course at the University of Melbourne she was awarded the Peg Oldfield Prize and the H A Owen Award for performance excellence and enjoyed leading the violas in its Faculty Orchestra. Merewyn indulged in the chamber music medium by juggling many groups at once, some of which were award winning. She has been a principal player with the University Chamber Orchestra since 2001 and performed solo with them several times, including during their 2003 tour of east coast Australia and being broadcast on ABC Classic FM in 2004 and 2005. 2006 saw Merewyn embark on postgraduate studies - a Master of Music Performance degree at the University of Melbourne.

Off campus, she performs with the orchestra of Australia Pro Arte and holds a casual position with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
